What an image of a signature is worth legally

In most jurisdictions a signature does not have to be handwritten to be binding. The US ESIGN Act and UETA, the EU's eIDAS regulation and the UK's Electronic Communications Act all recognise electronic signatures for the great majority of agreements. What matters legally is intent to sign and the ability to demonstrate it, not the visual form.

That said, a pasted image is the weakest form of electronic signature. It carries no evidence of who applied it or when, it can be copied from one document to another trivially, and it proves nothing if the agreement is disputed. Dedicated e-signature platforms add the things that actually matter in a challenge: an authenticated signer identity, a timestamp, an IP address and an audit trail, plus a tamper-evident hash of the signed document.

Some documents are excluded from electronic signing regardless. Wills, many property transfers, court filings and certain family-law documents commonly require a wet signature, and sometimes a witness or notary. The rules vary considerably by jurisdiction, so check before relying on an image for anything consequential. Practically: an image like this is fine for internal approvals and informal agreements, but use a proper platform for contracts that matter, and note that this tool is informational, not legal advice.
